I really like were this is heading with only 50 or so games left in the regular season. You got the division leaders, Yankees in the East, Tigers in the Central and Angels in the West, who all have leads that can easily get sucked up if they stumble. Nobody really has a cushion at this point. I guess that out of the East and the Central you could call a 5 game lead a cushion, but I wouldn't be that arrogant. Still too much baseball left to be played and anything can happen. The American league Wild card should turn out to be a good battle with Boston leading and Texas(1.5 games back) and Tampa Bay(3.5 games back) trailing close behind. All three of these teams have had a tough go the last 10 games with only Tampa Bay playing .500 ball. The Sox still have a series left with Texas and a couple of series left with the Yankees and the Rays, so we will see if they can get back on track. They have won the last two games against Central division leader Detroit Tigers after dropping 6 games in row, including a 4 game sweep dealt at the hands of the Yankees.
Out of the National league, you got the Phillies in the East, Cardinals in the Central and the Dodgers in the West. Same story line here in regards to the amount of lead these teams have in those divisions. However, the Dodgers have a 6.5 game lead and I really don't think anyone in that division can overcome that. Unless the Dodgers monumentally choke. The East and the Central is looking fun. Although the Phillies lead the Eastern Division, the Florida Marlins and the Atlanta Braves have been playing pretty good ball lately. Of course, I probably just jinxed them. I don't foresee either of them overtaking the Phillies to win the division, but they will probably and hopefully make em sweat. The Central is just great. Cardinals have a 3 game lead over the Cubs and these two teams hate each other. They only have one more series to play, but the Cardinals have a tough schedule with series against Atlanta, Florida, and Colorado. Not to mention, Houston and Milwaukee twice. All of these teams on the Cardinals schedule are in the hunt with the Wildcard. While Colorado leads at this point with a with a 1 game lead over the SF Giants; the Marlins, Cubs and Braves are just a games or so behind them. Then the Brew Crew and the Stro's are 6.5 and 7 games back respectively in the Wild Card.
At this point, in both leagues, it is out there for the taking. While I don't personally think there will be any shuffling with the Division leaders and of course, I could be wrong, I am really interested in the Wild Card for both leagues. Especially, the National league. It is real tight.
Well that concludes our MLB recap to this point in the season. I hope you enjoyed the coverage. Good day to all.
