REBELS IN THE RANKINGS:
For the sixth straight season Ole Miss opened the year ranked in the preseason polls. Currently, the Rebels are ranked as high as 17th (Collegiate Baseball) and appear in the rankings of all of five of the major college baseball polls.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME:
The home field has been kind to the Rebels during Bianco's tenure as Ole Miss has posted a 247-88-1 record within the friendly confines of O-U Stadium/Swayze Field for a (.737 winning percentage) at home.

REBELS VS. THE SEC:
Ole Miss experienced some success in Southeastern Conference play over the years as Ole Miss is 796-878-11 all time in conference play. The Rebels hold the lead against six teams in the league all-time with series leads over Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

A LOOK AT FLORIDA:
The Florida Gators enter the weekend with a 17-3 record, 3-0 in the season and are ranked as high as second in the nation according to Baseball America. Florida is coming off a mid-week win over Florida Gulf Coast University and a weekend sweep of Mississippi State. As a team, the Gators are batting .319 and have hit 24 home runs with 146 RBI on the season. They are led at the plate by first baseman Preston Tucker who is hitting .382 and has four home runs with 20 RBI. Austin Maddox leads the team with six home runs and 27 RBI. On the mound, Florida holds a 3.77 ERA as a team and is led by sophomore Alex Panteliodis - the Friday starter. Panteliodis holds a 5-0 record and a 1.59 ERA with five walks and 20 strikeouts. As a team, the Gators have struck out 158 and walked only 44 in 179.0 innings of work.

REBELS VS. FLORIDA:
Ole Miss leads the all-time series with Florida 41-40 and split the four meetings with the Gators a year ago. The Rebels took the weekend series 2-1 in Gainesville, but were eliminated from the SEC Tournament by the Gators in day two of action. The two teams first met in 1948 with sporadic contests as Ole Miss held a 15-10 advantage between 1948 and 1980. Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco is 17-9 against the Gators in his time as the Rebel skipper.

HIT STREAKS ON THE LINE:
Ole Miss has several players boasting hit streaks currently, but none longer than junior Matt Smith and freshman Alex Yarbrough. Bothp players have hit safely in six straight games. Yarbourgh is three games shy of tying his season-long of nine games with a hit. Also holding hit streaks heading into the weekend are Zach Miller (4), Kevin Mort (3), David Phillips (2) and Matt Tracy (2). Other players on the roster who hit safely in their last game played include Tim Ferguson, Taylor Hightower, Tanner Mathis, Matt Snyder and Mike Snyder.

MOVING UP THE STRIKEOUT LIST:
Junior pitcher Drew Pomeranz is quickly moving up the list for strikeouts in a career. With 49 strikeouts in 2010, the junior now has 254 strikeouts for his career putting him at seventh all time in program history. The top spot on the list is held by Lance Lynn with 332. Pomeranz needs three strikeouts to move into a tie for fourth place with Scott Bittle at 257 strikeouts.

Kinda feelin this today....

Rebs in the Semi's...of the NIT

Yeah, yeah, it's the NIT and not the NCAA Tournament. Big deal. The Rebs are still playing basketball and that sure beats sitting at home. We have a young team and this will be a great benefit for these guys down the road. I bet we make the big dance next season with these guys. Anyway, here is the bit from the Rebel website. .......

For the second time in the last three seasons, Ole Miss is making a trip to the National Invitation Tournament Final Four, held at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Ole Miss, a No. 2 seed, will face No. 3 seed Dayton in the first semifinal matchup on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET. The game will be televised by ESPN2.

A limited number of tickets for the Ole Miss section are available at $45 apiece through the Ole Miss ticket office (662-915-7167).

Fans can also purchase tickets through the Madison Square Garden box office via Ticketmaster (866-858-0008 or ticketmaster.com). Those prices range from $10 to $60. For additional information on Madison Square Garden, visit thegarden.com.

The Ole Miss Alumni Association is hosting a pre-game pep rally Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at Legends at 6 West 33rd Street, which is 1.5 blocks east of Madison Square Garden. The event will be held again Thursday should the Rebels advance to the championship game.

The Rebels boast a 24-10 record and have beaten Troy, Memphis and Texas Tech to advance to the semifinals of the 73rd annual NIT. The 24 wins are tied for the second-most in school history. Andy Kennedy's four-year total of 85 wins is one shy of the school record by an Ole Miss coaching staff and could be matched by a win in New York.

Ole Miss and Dayton have met only once before, with the Flyers claiming a 72-70 home win in an early-season tournament in December 1980.

The winner of the Ole Miss-Dayton semifinal game will square off with the North Carolina-Rhode Island winner in Thursday's championship game at 7 p.m. ET. The championship will be shown on ESPN.

The Rebels also made a semifinals appearance in 2008 when they lost to eventual NIT champion Ohio State.

The Misadventures of Doe and Terry

I am sure that throughout life we all encounter certain individuals that really make us realize that there are some truly odd folk out there. Well, Doe and Terry are no different. I first met these two cats nearly a decade ago and it has been that long since I have seen them or heard from them. Actually quite glad for that last part. I really don't think it would be in anyones best interest to formally associate with people of this brain power. Doe and Terry were dishwashers that I formally "supervised" at a former job. It goes a little like this..............

I was 25 years old. Fresh out of a rather well known four year institution, not prison, but some of the same routine, college. I was employed with a group of people that had opened a restaurant a few hours North of my current location in the big city of Memphis. I had just done a 6 month internship with the guys, learning about there food, wine, service style, etc... I wasn't sure if I was ready to make the jump to the big leagues like this, but I was enthusiastic about actually being employed in a field that I had some experience in. Nonetheless, it would be a challenge, as I would be assuming the roles of management in a assistant position. Really no way to clear cut a job description other than solve problems, do what needs to be done, and be nice. Easy enough I suppose when you are mid twenties and think you know it all. We had a dynamic group of personalities on staff. Waitstaff from all types of backgrounds, beliefs, attitudes, egos, problems, dependencies, etc..I had no responsibility over any kitchen personnel, but had a good relationship with them. Kitchen guys are easy to get along with once you get the lingo down and maybe buy them a few beers. Another area that is important in any foodservice are the dishwasher,...... potscrubbers, moppers, sweepers, dish bitches.... whatever you want to call. That was Doe and Terry.

I remember the first day,....I went around to the back because I wanted to make sure I knew everybody, so I went to introduce myself and Doe just looked at me with glazed eyes and said, "man, everybody just calls me doe....ok, Doe, how are you? Aight....". At this point, I was trying to figure out if his name was like dough or Doe, so I just settled for the deer reference and didn't bother asking for a proper spelling. I was pretty sure that the interest would be lost as the headphones were blaring some strong Snoop Dog. Anyway, Doe, was a little out there to the point of being rude. Didn't really show anyone any respect, rocked the Sox cap to the side and as I mentioned, had the headphones up all the way regardless of whether they were on his ears or not. Well, Terry was a little more formal... A gentleman of sorts. Missing several teeth and loved to show that off as it seems he smiled all the time. Pretty sure anybody could get along with Terry. He was a mans man....liked fishing, drinking, chasing women and trying to dodge child support payments. Solid makeup of an individual.

So first night of officially being open and the place is jumping. There was a great deal of buzz about the place, so there was nothing soft about this so called soft opening. It was shittin and gettin...four deep in the bar....full dining room... turning over tables left and right....just straight up rockin. I approached the pass, as the kitchen was open to the dining room so the action was right there in front of you. Can't really curse out loud if your a kitchen guy, but it was probably so loud that nobody would have heard it. The head chef/boss is expediting orders and putting the finishing touches on plates before they make the trip to the diners. He looks at me and says,"@#%&!$# dishes are stacked up in the back and we are running out of plates.....deal with this"....So I did,..... I went to the back to dishland to see what the problem was, praying the dish machine wasn't broken or something to that effect. I get back there and there is no Doe washing dishes. I look across the way and Terry is working his tail off. He looks at me and I mouth, were is Doe. He just shrugs his shoulders like man, how the hell am I supposed to know that. I am 20 skillets deep in 160 degree water, burning my damn arms off. It was a mess in dishland and the servers kept bringing the dirty back. So, I thought, let me check out back and see if his car is here. Kinda didn't want to do so considering it was around 8:30 at night and there could have been someone back there waiting to attack. Safety first ya know,.... but I cracked the door open and sure enough, there was Doe, hanging out, leaned up against the side of the building....smoking. I approached him and said, Doe, what the heck are you doing? Doe said, man, I'm on break. I was like, break, there is no break at this point in the evening. We still have a full seating of customers waiting and we are trying to feed this seating...We need clean dishes...your job remember....wait, what the f@#k? Are you smoking a joint? Yeh man, calms my nerves and shit....Doe, that is illegal....You, me and this place could get in some serious trouble for that...you need to get rid of that stuff right now. Doe was like, nah man, its cool. This is Memphis baby. I was sorta confused at this point. Kinda thinking he was right, but then my senses gathered me and I told him that he has got 1 minute or you can stay out here as long as you like because I am going inside and you are fired. Kinda changed his tune and he mashed out the end of his roach and put it back in his box of Kools and came back in. He had his work cut out for him after that. Doe washed dishes consecutively for the next 4 and half hours. It was like 2 am when he got done. Terry did all the other cleaning because he got done much quicker than Doe. When he left that night/morning, I was thinking, he probably isn't coming back to this job. Not with all this stress and no mind clearing time. He did. There will be more on these cats at a later date. This is not embellished in any way, as these stories need no embellishing. Dishwashers are some interesting people.

Speaking of the NCAA tournament....

I am sure some of you have seen this....if not, enjoy. The Gus Johnson Soundboard..

http://www.gusjohnsongetsbuckets.com/

Monday Slackoff...

And here we....go....

Now that the field has been cut down to 16 teams,... it has gotten real. Sure the first two rounds were great and there was some amazing ball gettin thrown around and all, but that is just too much to deal with at this pay rate. I bet there are some really out of whack brackets as well. We(I) didn't do one because I don't watch enough of the sport to justify an opinion on all teams in the tournament. However, I have had the chance to see several of the Sweet 16 teams play this year so I know what they are capable of doing. Like out of the East region, Kentucky and West Virginia. Both Solid and I expect them to battle for the chance to go to the Final Four. I really want to cheer for Cornell because they are such an underdog, but if KY keeps playing like they have been, I just don't know if they can keep up. I mean, Cornell is gonna have to shoot lights out from 3-land. They can do it, but I mean, they have really gotta be bringin it. KY seems to be really hot right now, so we shall see if they can keep it up with all those talented underclassmen and bring a title to the SEC.

The West is like a who's who of teams that are in the tournament seems like every year or when they are in the tournament, they are a team that is given a tremendous amount of respect regardless of where they are seeded. I like the Orange out of this region.

The South, you gotta think Duke has the upper hand here. Not giving Purdue much of a chance, I know, but Duke has Coach K. He's crafty and can draw the best out of his players.

Out of the Midwest, I really want the Vols to win this region for the sake of the SEC. Having two teams in the Final Four is a great exclamation to how strong the athletics are in this conference. But, who knows at this point. I am sure most had Kansas winning this region, but Northern Iowa screwed that up. Maybe Northern Iowa can pull it off. I think it would be kinda cool.

Oh well, here are the matchups with a little analysis courtesy of Yahoo...
Thursday, March 25, 2010
EAST REGION In Syracuse, N.Y.
No. 2 West Virginia vs. No. 11 Washington
TIME: 7:27 p.m.
QUICKIE ANALYSIS: Washington needs to force the tempo to have any chance at its third consecutive upset. The Huskies can hurt WVU in transition, but they are going to have trouble scoring inside if they’re forced to play a half-court game. For the second game in a row, the main job for WVU’s guards will be to withstand defensive pressure and get the ball inside to a standout frontcourt.

No. 1 Kentucky vs. No. 12 Cornell
TIME: 9:57 p.m.
QUICKIE ANALYSIS: Cornell eviscerated the defenses of Temple and Wisconsin to get here, and those teams are more defense-oriented than Kentucky. But the Wildcats are better offensively – vastly better – than the Owls and Badgers. Cornell should get its points, but there doesn’t seem to be any way the Big Red can slow the Wildcats.

WEST REGION In Salt Lake City

No. 1 Syracuse vs. No. 5 Butler
TIME: 7:07 p.m.
QUICKIE ANALYSIS: The biggest storyline will be whether Syracuse center Arinze Onuaku will be healthy. Butler can’t run with the Orange, so look for the Bulldogs to try to control the pace. That’s hard to do against the Orange. But consider: Syracuse was held under 70 points three times this season – and the Orange lost twice (to Louisville both times). The other game was a 59-57 win at DePaul when the Blue Demons fell apart down the stretch. The flipside: Butler allowed 70 points just three times this season – and lost all three (to Minnesota, Clemson and Georgetown).

No. 2 Kansas State vs. No. 6 Xavier
TIME: 9:37 p.m.
QUICKIE ANALYSIS: Both teams prefer a fast pace – not surprising, considering that both have good guards – but K-State is better defensively. While the guards are the focal points for each team, the frontcourt battle will be worth watching. Xavier’s Jason Love and Jamel McLean going against K-State’s Jamar Samuels and Curtis Kelly actually could have more impact on the outcome than the play of the backcourts. Speaking of backcourts, let’s hope both coaches decide that K-State’s Jacob Pullen should guard Xavier’s Jordan Crawford and vice versa.

Friday, March 26, 2010
SOUTH REGION in Houston

No. 3 Baylor vs. No. 10 Saint Mary’s
TIME: 7:27 p.m.
QUICKIE ANALYSIS: For a mid-major Saint Mary’s certainly has good size, and the Gales have had two good matchups so far - against guard-oriented Richmond and Villanova. Baylor is guard-oriented, too, with Tweety Carter and LaceDarius Dunn. But the Bears have something that Richmond and ’Nova don’t: They have a standout center in Ekpe Udoh. Saint Mary’s has survived two quick backcourts so far. Can the Gaels survive another? And the Udoh-Omar Samhan showdown should be a good one.

No. 1 Duke vs. No. 4 Purdue
TIME: 9:57 p.m.
QUICKIE ANALYSIS: Duke is looking for its first Elite Eight appearance since 2006, and it will be doing so against an undermanned Purdue team. Even without star Robbie Hummel, the Boilermakers got past defense-challenged Siena in the first round and offense-challenged Texas A&M in the second round. Now comes Duke, which is a well-rounded team. But, hey, if Chris Kramer can score 17 points in one game, anything can happen for Purdue.

MIDWEST REGIONAL In St. Louis

No. 2 Ohio State vs. No. 6 Tennessee
TIME: 7:07 p.m.
QUICKIE ANALYSIS: This region has opened up with Kansas’ shocking departure. Can either of these teams take advantage? Ohio State runs a four-guard offense and lacks both big men and depth. But the Buckeyes have Evan Turner leading the way. Tennessee rarely looks pretty when it wins, but the Vols have done a lot of winning this season. Expect Vols coach Bruce Pearl to concoct some off-beat defenses to try to deter Turner. Neither team is overpowering on the boards, so that bears watching.

No. 5 Michigan State vs. No. 9 Northern Iowa
TIME: 9:37 p.m.
QUICKIE ANALYSIS: On the face of it, your first thought probably is, “Northern Iowa beating Mr. March himself, Tom Izzo, and the Spartans? Come on.” Then you sit back and realize that if UNI can beat Kansas, the Panthers can beat anyone. And then you think back to 2006, when George Mason beat Michigan State, North Carolina and Connecticut on the way to the Final Four. Besides, will Michigan State star Kalin Lucas be healthy and able to play?

THE PACIFIC STARTS THIS SUNDAY

If you don't have HBO I would suggest you call your cable company and sign up for the next 10 weeks. "The Pacific", a 10 part miniseries about the Marines fighting in the Pacific during WWII starts this sunday at 8:00 pm. It's done by the same people who did "Band of Brothers" which is probably the best series/movie, whatever you want to call it, I have ever seen. Here is the trailer.

GETTING THERE

Bought a lower parts kit and a butt stock for my rifle this weekend. Got a tan pistol grip coming in the mail to match the butt stock. Only a few more parts to go and she'll be done.

JACK YOUR WAY TO A STRONG UPPER BODY

The first time I saw this commercial I couldn't help but think that this looked like a chick giving an HJ. Look ladies, there is no need to pay for overpriced workout equipment when you can get the same workout by asking any guy in the world to help you out. Well, apparently I'm not the only one who thinks this as there is a parody of the commercial on youtube. In case you haven't seen the original I'll post that video too.

THE ORIGINAL

THE PARODY

Friggin Friday...

Have a Great Weekend!!!!

I'll be darn...

After taking care of business Thursday against the Tigers of LSU, the Rebs have put themselves in a position to win/tie for the SEC Western division and secure a first round bye in the upcoming SEC tournament. However, a whole lot has to take place for that to happen. First off, the Rebs gotta beat Arkansas. Secondly, Miss State has to lose to Tennessee. This would create a tie and put the Rebs as a #2 seed in the before mentioned SEC tournament. Not bad for a team, at times looked great and at others looked like they didn't know what was going on and that you could actually get points from inside the 3-point line. Yeah, the Rebs like to shoot the long ball. They have chunked up 652 attempts from downtown while making a respectable 36%. Sorta a must win on the road in Fayetteville, so here is to hoping for a Reb win, a State loss and a strong showing in the SEC tournament. The Rebs really don't have a shot at the "Big Dance" without it and it would be nice to get into the tournament that really matters. On that, here are a few notes about the upcoming matchup which will solidify my points and give you something to think about.....

QUICK NOTES
- The winner of today's matchup will be the Western Division No. 2 seed in next week's SEC Tournament.
- If Ole Miss beats Arkansas and Mississippi State loses to Tennessee, the Rebels and Bulldogs would share the SEC Western Division title.
- Andy Kennedy has led Ole Miss to 20 wins for the third time in his first four seasons. He is the second Rebel coach ever to reach the 20-win mark three times.
- Saturday's game will be the 66th meeting between the two schools, with the Razorbacks holding an all-time series lead of 41-24.
- Ole Miss is 5-4 this season in true road games (4-3 in SEC road games).
- The Rebels went 1-3 with freshman Reginald Buckner out with an ankle injury, but are 19-6 when he plays.
- At 78.7 ppg, Ole Miss ranks second in the SEC and 25th in the nation in scoring offense.
- The Rebels have out-rebounded their opponent in nine of the last 12 games.
- Junior guard Chris Warren has hit a 3-pointer in 39 consecutive games, the second-longest streak in school history and seventh-longest in SEC history.

REBS COMPETE FOR A RETURN TO THE BIG DANCE
Ole Miss is looking to return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2002, and it has built a strong case starting with some big non-conference results. The Rebels have neutral-site wins over the hot Kansas State Wildcats (RPI No. 5) and C-USA Champion UTEP (No. 44). The win over KSU is the best non-league victory by an SEC team away from its home court this season.
Overall, Ole Miss is 2-5 against top-50 RPI teams and 7-8 against teams in the current RPI top 120. Among the Rebels' losses are five of the RPI's top 16 squads - No. 4 Kentucky, No. 6 West Virginia, No. 7 Villanova, No. 12 Vanderbilt and No. 16 Tennessee - and no loss by more than 12 points. The squad's only loss to a team currently below 100th is to Arkansas (No. 136). The Rebels are 12-4 at home and 8-5 away from home (5-4 road, 3-1 neutral).
The presence of 6-foot-8 freshman Reginald Buckner, the team's best post defender, has been a big key to the Rebels' success. The team is 19-6 when he dresses out but went just 1-3 in the four SEC games he missed with a severe ankle sprain.

OLE MISS-ARKANSAS SERIES
Saturday's game will be the 66th meeting between the two schools, with the Razorbacks holding an all-time series lead of 41-24. The series began in 1937. Since Arkansas joined the Southeastern Conference in the 1991-92 season, Ole Miss leads the series 19-18 and has won 16 of the last 24 meetings and five of the last eight. Arkansas snapped the Rebels' three-game winning streak in the series with an 80-73 win on Jan. 31 in Oxford, a game that was postponed from Saturday to Sunday due to severe winter weather travel issues. Arkansas owns a 14-7 advantage in games played in Fayetteville, but the Rebels won 98-91 (OT) there last year.

SEC TOURNAMENT SCENARIOS
Ole Miss enters today's contest one game ahead of Arkansas for second place in the SEC West standings at 8-7 behind division leader Mississippi State at 9-6. The winner of the Ole Miss-Arkansas contest will be the West's No. 2 seed in the SEC Tournament and receive a first-round bye. An Ole Miss win and Mississippi State loss to Tennessee would result in a Co-Western Division title for those two squads. MSU owns the head-to-head tie-breaker with UM and has clinched the West's No. 1 seed.

Just a Reminder...

Only 99 days till the greatest Soccer(Futbol) Tournament... If you are interested in getting any details here is a link..... Here is to hoping for a strong showing by the U.S.A.

What'd we miss?!?

Whew! Good to be home. I mean the Bahamas was nice but staying there for 3 weeks is really overrated. Trust me. Anyway, what all did we miss. America kicked a little ass in the Olympics. I never really saw any of the action. I was too busy staring into crystal blue waters and rum drinks. But I think we expected to have a strong showing in the games. Between Vonn, miller ,and the flying tomato you just knew somebody was bringing home the gold..... Moving right along, MLB Spring training has started and that is fantastic news here at the corner. It just means the regular season is really close to starting. We like baseball here. We don't really cover it all that much because of the fact that there are a whole bunch of teams and we aren't MLB network or ESPN. It is too much to deal with along with our thirst for all things college sports related; And I would guess we will start dealing out the goods in SEC baseball once the conference play gets under way..... In addition to all this hoopla surrounding the sporting world with the Olympics and baseball; golf's resident HORNDOG came out of hiding(and sex camp) to make an apology to the general public, friends, family and fellow stick swingers about his infidelity, his daily requirements for sexcapades and his apparent extreme level of kinkiness. So, I am guessing Tiger isn't a role model anymore? Well that really can take the jam out of a young mans donut. I bet he will be a little more careful next time...... Shifting gears a little, I have been meaning to share this for some time now, so why not now. Some may refer to this as cholesterol. Or heart attack...on deck. I like to call it, "A little slice of heaven". A sausage stuffed pork tenderloin wrapped in bacon. Its okay to cry, because the damn thing really is a thing of beauty. God bless the pig. It was delicious. So, it is good to be back. Peace
