Top Ten Song about Rain....

Well since we can't seem to catch to much of a break from the rain I have decided to post the Top Ten songs about Rain!! Thats right Rain!! This list is pretty debatable but these were the ten I threw together. So lets get rolling with number 10 and number 9 to start.

Number 10 - I can see clearly now- Johnny Nash

Number 9 - Have you ever seen the rain? - Creedence Clearwater Revival

7 year old steals car to dodge church

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

Lord knows growing up, that getting up for early service was one thing that I didn't like to do. Nothing against church at all, but as a youngster all you wanna do is play video games, watch tv,ride bikes, goof off, eat and sleep. Church really doesn't fit into the equation. So I can sympathize with this little dude in his willingness to not go. Of course that doesn't make it right and I never stole a car to avoid church. But you gotta admit, he is pretty good behind the wheel and thankfully he or nobody else was hurt. I do think it is funny when he bails out of the car.

COLEMAN PICKS UP FIRST MINOR LEAGUE SAVE

Louis Coleman picked up his first minor league save last night against the West Michigan Whitecaps pitching two no hit innings to close it out. He gave up one walk and struck out one. It was his second appearance of the season. In his first, he pitched one inning allowing one hit and striking out two. His totals are 3 innings pitched, 1 hit 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. His one hit allowed was a double to former LSU teammate Robert Lara. Not a bad start.

COWBOY CAMP DAY 1 CONTINUED

As Crockett noted earlier, I was at the Cowboys practice today. He is right, I really don't care about the Cowboys but they were in town and I needed to kill a few hours. I may have to cheer for the Cowboys this year since I don't really have a pro team that I like and they are sort of local. It was pretty much what you think a practice might be like, not very interesting other than a couple thousand fans cheering and booing every play. The highlight had to be when "Rowdy" the Cowboys mascot came screaming out of the tunnel on a 4 wheeler with 20 inch rims and rode around on the field while the team was practicing. I could not get a picture of it because he never parked it near us and when he was riding it he was going way to fast to get a shot. I'm not really sure how the "Boys" are supposed to concentrate with all this going on and maybe this is why they haven't won a playoff game in forever but who am I to judge. Anyway, here are a few pics.

Cowboy Camp day 1

First day of training camp and none other than our very own MacArthur was there to witness the workout, dills and passion that encompasses America's Team, The Dallas Cowboys. I am a Cowboys fan and I am pretty sure Mac is not. He is probably in attendance because they are having training camp in San Antonio and he lives there and it is Pro Football and did I mention it is football.
I am not posting this as a precursor of things to come. I probably won't post all that much about the cowboys during the season. As a blog we will post about the NFL as a whole and share our thoughts and spectacular games and plays as they come to us, the fans. I just thought this was a great pic that Mac took from his phone and sent to me and it gave me a reason to post and let you know we will cover football with a passion on this blog in the coming months ahead. I know you are just as ready as we are. Thanks

Is this seriously okay?

So I am in the grocery this morning getting a few things that are required to live; lunch meat, bread, paper towels, etc.. I am perusing the cereal aisle trying to decide between 'Wheaties' and 'Cookie Crisp' and an elderly lady is heading towards me. I say elderly because she had to be scaring the hell out of 75. Anyway, I navigate my cart to the side as to not take up too much of the aisle and give her clear and safe passage by me in the event she wished to pass on by. As she approaches I greet her with a good morning and she kinda nods... no big deal that she didn't reply. Well she stops right there by me and is checking out the contents of the other side of the aisle. I didn't pay any attention to what she was looking at as it was really none of my business. A few seconds into us clogging up the aisle a foul odor came over me. A stench that would rival the type of flatulence that is normally reserved for bar hounds that consume draft beer...see "My Creepy Neighbor". It was rather unpleasant and I was forced to abort my cereal purchase as I was sure that everything but the 'Honey Smacks' were tainted at this point. Nothing against 'Honey Smacks' they are just located away from the direction the cart was pointed and I surely wasn't going back into the lions den of stale air biscuits.

As I was walking off, I was shocked, disgusted and appalled that this seemingly nice little old lady just crop dusted me in the grocery. Wow, a new first in my life. Sure, we have all been exposed to someone else's hot box in public places, but the grocery!! I had no other choice but to head north a few aisles to the meat section and pray for fresh air. As I continued on, I approached every aisle with a certain hesitation normally reserved for stalking as I was concerned of getting trapped in a aisle with this woman again. I had officially lost track of what else it was that I came to get at the store so I just walked around and tried to get the stank out of my nose. Upon deciding to go ahead and get out of the store, I notice that the gassy granny is checking out. So, I decided to hang back and look at some magazines while she took care of her bill and I did not go to the same line she had been occupying for fear that might have sprayed the checkout lane. Fortunately, I was able to escape without any further extracurricular perfumes attached to my senses and go about my day in relative peace.

But seriously, is this the world we live in now? I know things are tough out there. There is the war on terrorism, the health care issue, unemployment. But this does not give anyone, including little old ladies, the right to mutiny and just start busting ass on unreluctant strangers in the grocery. This can't be where we are headed as a society and if it is, I will fight fire with fire. I cannot imagine a society of rapid grocery store flatulence. I just can't and I will not tolerate it and neither should you. So, with that being said, be aware in the grocery. A rather nice older person may be bringing something to the table in passing and it might not be a friendly hello.

Teddy does make a good point

This is an old video of "The Nuge" giving his opioion on what the second amendment states. The best part is that this is a liberal talk show and the look on the hosts face is priceless. I couldn't tell if the host was pissed, scared, or was looking at Ted thinking "I wish I were you because you are a real man and I am basically a woman with a penis".

MY NEW PROJECT/ TOY

I have wanted to get an AR-15 for awhile and I figured since I now (for my job) know just about everything there is to know about them, why not build one myself. So here is a picture of the first piece, the lower receiver. It houses the trigger assembly, pistol grip, safety, magazine catch/release and the butt stock. All sold separately. I picked it up today and it cost me $110. I got a good deal because I got some guys from my class to get one too so the guy gave us a discount since we bought quite a few of them. The ones I've seen at gun shows ran from about $150 - $175. Anyway, this will take a while and I hope to have a finished product by next summer as some of the parts are quite expensive if you want quality. Below is a picture of a basic one finished. Mine will have some accessories that this one doesn't but the basics are all the same.

Billy Perry stars in new reality show... "Who wants to go to prison?"

Here is video of Greenwood native Billy Perry stealing Sony digital reader books, "whatever the hell those are". Somehow I don't see Billy being an avid "reader". Anyway, what I found interesting is that in every shot he is wearing the same shirt. The first rule of being a thief is don't stand out. Come on Billy it's thievery 101. Here's my guess at what the APB said, White male, bald, tiny head, big ears, and wearing a "where's Waldo" shirt. Shit Billy, Ray Charles could have spotted your ass. Also, any thief worth his salt knows you go for the big score, one and done. Billy stole $6,000 dollars worth of shit in 5 states. With gas prices what they are these days, traveling across 5 states can cost more than $6,000. Not to mention beer, smokes and nudie mags. Where's the profit margin? It just doesn't make sense. And what the hell Commonwealth? This story has been up for three days and still the lead story on the Commonwealth.com is how Billy is trying to get his store back open. That's just complete incompetence. The qualifications for being a "NEWS" journalist at the Commonwealth must be "breathing". Click the link below for the video.

Creepy neighbor update

This is pretty much long overdue. I mean I haven't written anything about this guy in months. And honestly, he hasn't been up to much. I don't know. He could be inside waiting on the heatwave of summer to pass. He could be working on a series of IED's to incorporate throughout the town. Oh yeah, for those of you living on the moon the last 10 years, IED is an acronym for improvised explosive devise. Anyway, he has been quiet which scares the ever living hell out of me. Why is he quiet? Cut the grass! Rake the yard! Something! Just let me know that you are there and not harboring my untimely demise. Did that girl that said she was going to rat me out about these stories finally come true on her threat? God I hope not. I am always nice to her. Not because of that threat, but because I am nice person. Anyway, our paths crossed just recently the other afternoon. He was out surveying his yard. He was shirtless with jeans on and his standard issue hiking boots. I thought that was a little much. We don't want to see you shirtless in your yard. Put some clothes on man. There are children riding bikes and stuff. There should be a shirt ordinance in this town. If you aren't going or coming from a water related event(pool, lake, river, etc..) you should be bound by law to wear a shirt. I don't give a damn how hot it is and to be honest with you it hasn't been that hot. Anyway, that's all I got on this cat. Like I said, he has been quiet. And like I said, this scares me. So, when something happens that is beyond reasonable understanding and can only be clear evidence that it is an event of a cataclysmic nature, don't forget... I told you so.

Seriously WTF???!!

I am only posting right now because I am bored. Sure there are all types of news stories I could write about. Walter Cronkite passed away. They have arrested an ex con who sold the gun to Mcnair's murderer. Prince Fielder won the home run derby. And then there is Greenwood politics and the 'brick dispute' which has made so many headlines of late. None of this really does it for me. I am not saying it isn't worthy. It is. By all means it is. I just don't feel like wasting my time writing about it. So with that being said, this post is about nothing. Not in the sense that "Seinfield" was a show about nothing. I am just taking up space on the net with this blurb. I do not have one discernible thing to talk about at this point in my life that would be fitting for public record. Private side. Sorry. Buy the book. But for now, nothing. I live a modest life people. I get up, go to work, come home, enjoy lunch, watch a little tv, nap, shower, then go back to work. Pretty mundane. However, on Sundays.... I play volleyball. I know, I know, Maverick and Goose against Iceman and Slider.. not exactly. I play pool volleyball. I am a shareholder in an above ground pool (AGP for those so inclined) and with this pool comes a net that stretches the length or the width depending on how you view a circle. I guess it would be best to say it cuts the circumference in half. On both sides of that net are willing and able players with one goal. That goal is to drink and be merry. Sure we keep score and the losers are taunted, but after the match its really over with. Its not like we have designated teams that play together each Sunday. Although that would be interesting in a league type way. But, nonetheless, we ball. And we ball hard. Never underestimate the amount of exercise you can get playing pool volleyball. Seriously, it can be rigid. And for those of you that are not in peak physical shape like myself, if the exercise doesn't get you, the drinking will. Imagine that, a volleyball match were all are consuming. Wow! What a novel concept. Who do we owe this too? For this ingenious idea. To couple the normal rate of consumption we incorporate Shots( I mentioned this earlier with the 4th of July post). This alone has led to a dramatic increase in random Sunday afternoon/night texting. Not just of the female nature, but just really wake up Monday morning and be like wow, I sent a shout out to that person. I haven't talked to them in 3 years kinda randomness. So you can see where I am going with this, which is pretty much nowhere. Now if you will excuse me, I gotta answer this text.

Coleman signs deal with Royals

Louis Coleman signed Monday with the Kansas City Royals, according to an LSU news release. The Royals selected the senior right-hander in the fifth round of last month’s MLB draft, taking him with the 152nd overall pick. Coleman will begin his pro career with the Burlington (Iowa) Bees, Kansas City’s Single-A affiliate in the Midwest League. Should he progress through the Royals’ organization, he likely would pitch again in Omaha, Neb., where the club’s Triple-A affiliate plays.

This seems fitting for today. Plus this version is pretty damn spectacular.. For those of you that do not know who Chris Cornell is, he was in Soundgarden and Audioslave. Hope you enjoy.

4th of July revisited...

Now that the fog has lifted and my mind is working again I will try and recount the day that was Independence day. A well conceived plan to have a pool party/volleyball match started with a few and ended with many. We did not do much cooking on the 4th, as much as it was done the day before. We decided on this in order to not get bogged down manning a grill all afternoon.

The Volleyball match: I can't recall how many were involved, but lets say 16 people total. 8 on 8!! It started as a best of three but somehow got twisted into a best of five. The reason for that is because the loser of the best of three was sore about getting spanked and so we played two more. Which, obviously at that point, myself and the team I was on was entirely over the legal limit of consumption. So we won the best of three but lost the best of five. You see, one of the rules in volleyball at the Macarthur Pool is that if you hit the ball out of the pool you must do the service of taking a shot of whatever liquor is provided. Well, two of the masterminds of this party decided to take it back to the old school and make up tasty concoction for the purpose of shooting. It was like a mixture of Bullfrog and Whoop juice. If you are from around here you know what I am talking about. I am sure there are other names for it in other states, but that is how we roll around here. We decided to call it Whoop Frog!!!

Anyway, you take a water cooler with spout. Mix up a half gallon of vodka, a can and a half of frozen limeade concentrate, a liter of triple sec, a liter of sweet and sour, and a two liter of sprite. Chop up some oranges, pineapples, and watermelon to throw in there and just mix it all together. This last part is very important. You need to add ice too it. Otherwise you are drinking a really stout cocktail. The ice melts and dilutes it a little...not allot though.

Ok, now that the mixology is out of the way. As I mentioned.. Ball leaves pool, person responsible takes a shot. We had about 7 balls in the pool so we could continue without constantly getting in and out of the pool. Long and short of it, I hit a fair amount of balls out the pool. An although my intimidation tactic of constantly splashing the other team in between points did not work; I will defend the method as sound and legal in the realm of pool volleyball.

So with that being said, the folks at the party wanted to wish Macarthur a happy 4th since he is not with us and is now a Texan. That's what the pic is for. Notice I am not in it Mac. So don't shoot the messenger.
Also, I wanted to include a picture of this knucklehead. You know him!! He is such a fixture here he might as well be a contributor. Thanks and hope everyone else had a great holiday.

Tragedy

On the day when the country celebrates in Independence, the country, the NFL, the sporting world and the State of Mississippi and Tennessee lost a true hero and idol. Steve LaTreal McNair was 36 years old and one of the most celebrated athletes to come out of Mississippi, was tragically gunned down in what police are ruling a homicide. While the police have yet to rule on the death of Sahel Kazemi, the entire horrible event looks like a murder-suicide.

I have wanted to write something out of respect for the past two days but have been unable to find words that would do this person justice. Growing up, everyone followed "Air McNair" and Alcorn. They might not have attended games(I never did), but they certainly read the sports page. He was intriguing to most of us because of his dual threat ability, he had some good wheels to go with the arm and he directed an offense that threw the ball on nearly every down. So with that being said, we will honor Steve with a recap of his life and career.

Steve LaTreal McNair was born February 14, 1973. He attended Mount Olive High School in Mississippi as a freshman in the fall of 1987, where he played football, baseball, and basketball in addition to running track. As a junior, McNair led Mount Olive to the state championship. McNair also played free safety in high school, and in 1990 alone, he intercepted 15 passes, raising his career total to 30, which tied the mark established by Terrell Buckley at Pascagoula High School. An All-State selection, McNair was named an All-American by Super Prep magazine.

The Seattle Mariners drafted him in the 35th round of the 1991 MLB amateur draft.

McNair played collegiately for Alcorn State University, a historically black university which competes in the NCAA's Division I-AA (now known as the Football Championship Subdivision) Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).

In 1992, McNair threw for 3,541 yards and 29 touchdowns, and ran in for 10 more scores. The Braves fashioned a record of 7–4, including a last-second victory in their rematch with Grambling. In that contest, McNair returned from an injury and helped Alcorn State, trailing late in the final period, move deep into Tigers' territory. Then, despite a leg injury, he tucked the ball under his arm and dove into the end zone for the winning touchdown. The victory over Grambling helped the Braves qualify for the I-AA playoffs.

McNair helped Alcorn State to another good year in 1993, as the Braves upped their record to 8–3 while McNair threw for more than 3,000 yards and 30 touchdowns. He was also named First-Team All-SWAC for the third year in a row.

In his senior season, McNair gained nearly 6,000 yards rushing and passing, along with 53 touchdowns. In the process, he surpassed more than a dozen records and was named an All-American. In addition, McNair won the Walter Payton Award as the top I-AA player and finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting behind Rashaan Salaam and Ki-Jana Carter.

With the third pick in the 1995 NFL Draft the Oilers and new head coach Jeff Fisher selected McNair, who signed a seven-year contract. McNair did not see his first action until the last two series of the fourth quarter in a November game versus the Cleveland Browns. Late in the season, he also appeared briefly against the Detroit Lions and New York Jets. Meanwhile, starting quarterback Chris Chandler finished as the AFC's fourth-best passer.

In 1996, McNair remained a backup to Chandler until starting a game in December against the Jacksonville Jaguars

. McNair's first season as the Oilers' starter in 1997 resulted in an 8–8 record for the team, which played its home games at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tennessee. McNair's 2,665 passing yards were the most for the Oilers since Warren Moon in 1993, and his 13 interceptions were the fewest for a single season in franchise history. He also led the team in rushing touchdowns with eight and ranked second behind running back Eddie George with 674 yards on the ground, the third-highest total for a quarterback in NFL history.

In 1998, McNair set career passing highs with 492 attempts, 289 completions, 3,228 yards and 15 touchdowns for the Oilers, now competing in Nashville. He also cut his interceptions to 10, helping his quarterback rating climb to 80.1.

The Oilers officially changed their name to Tennesee Titans for the 1999 season as they debuted a new stadium, the Coliseum. Early in the 1999 season, McNair was diagnosed with an inflamed disk following Tennessee's 36–35 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, and needed surgery. In his stead entered Neil O'Donnell, a veteran who had guided the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Super Bowl four years earlier. During the next five games, O'Donnell led the Titans to a 4–1 record. McNair returned against the St. Louis Rams, and with McNair starting, Tennessee won seven of its last nine games, good for a record of 13–3 and second place in the AFC Central.

Tennessee opened the playoffs at home against the Buffalo Bills in a Wild Card game, winning on the "Music City Miracle" and eventually advancing to Super Bowl XXXIV in a re-match with the Rams. On the final play of the game, a McNair pass to Kevin Dyson was complete, but Dyson was unable to break the plane of the goal line, giving the Rams the win. McNair signed a new six-year contract after the season worth $47 million.

Following a 13–3 season in 2000 that ended in a playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens, the 28-year-old McNair put together his most productive year as a pro. McNair registered career passing highs in yards (3,350), completions (264), touchdowns (21) and quarterback rating (90.2). He was also the team's most effective rusher, tying George for the club lead with five scores. Named to the Pro Bowl for the first time, McNair sat out the game due to a shoulder injury.

In 2002, Tennessee finished the regular season 11-5 and reached the playoffs. In the Divisional playoff contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers, McNair threw for a career postseason high 338 yards and 2 touchdowns, with 2 interceptions, while rushing for 29 yards and another score on the ground. The game have a controversial finish when, after missing a game winning field goal at the end of regulation time and a second failed kick in overtime was negated because of a controversial running-into-the-kicker penalty on Pittsburgh's Dewayne Washington, kicker Joe Nedney won the game from 26 yards out 2:15 into overtime. Steelers coach Bill Cowher said that he called a timeout before the winning kick took place. McNair and the Titans reached the AFC Championship game but were unable to reach the Super Bowl, losing to the Oakland Raiders 41-24.

After this loss in 2002, McNair was arrested for DUI and illegal gun possession in May 2003. His blood alcohol was above 0.10, and a 9-mm handgun had been sitting in the front of the car. In December of the 2003 season, an injured calf and ankle kept McNair on the sidelines for two games. Still he finished with the best numbers of his career, including 24 touchdown passes and a quarterback rating of 100.4. The Titans ended at 12–4, the same record as the Colts, but Indianapolis took the AFC South by virtue of its two victories over Tennessee. McNair and Colts quarterback Peyton Manning were named co-NFL MVPs following the season, which ended in a playoff loss to the New England Patriots for the Titans.

McNair missed the 2004 season's fourth game with a bruised sternum, an injury suffered the previous week against Jacksonville, and played in only five more games that season.

Following the 2005 season, on April 30, 2006, the Titans allowed McNair and his agent, Bus Cook to speak with the Ravens to try to work out a deal. On May 1, 2006, the Baltimore Sun reported that the Baltimore Ravens might wait for McNair to be released by the Titans during free agency. Speculation was that the Titans might hold onto McNair until the week before training camp in late July if the Ravens didn't come up with a satisfactory trade offer for McNair according to a league source.

However, on June 7, 2006, the two teams worked out a deal to send McNair to the Ravens for a 4th-round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. On June 8, McNair flew to Baltimore, passed a physical, and was announced as the newest member of the Ravens.

The 2006 season saw McNair start each game for the Ravens, missing only portions of two games. On Week 14 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, McNair threw the longest touchdown pass in the Raven´s history, when he threw an 89 yard touchdown pass to receiver Mark Clayton, McNair helped Baltimore to a 13–3 record and an AFC North Championship. McNair started at quarterback in his first playoff game as a Raven when his team played against the Colts on January 13, 2007.McNair was 18 of 29 for 173 yards with no touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Overall, the Ravens had four turnovers in the game. The Ravens lost 15–6.

On May 9, 2007 McNair was a passenger in a car that was pulled over for suspicion of drunk driving. Both the driver of the vehicle, which was his brother-in-law, and McNair were arrested for driving under the influence. Under Tennessee law, one can still be arrested for DUI even if you are a passenger in your own car and the driver is found to be under the influence. McNair owned the pick-up truck involved and was charged with DUI by consent. The charges were dropped on July 10, 2007.

In 2007, McNair did not play in Week 2 against the Jets which the Ravens won 20–13. He also did not play the full game in Week 3, however, the game was won by the Ravens, 26–23. McNair missed nine more games during the rest of the season, including getting pulled after taking many hits from Steelers' linebacker James Harrison in Week 9, and fumbling the ball twice.
After 13 seasons in the NFL, McNair announced his retirement in April 2008.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the McNair family during this difficult time. Thank you for the memories Steve.

CRANK DAT HOLY GHOST!

Since it's Sunday and all...

ROBERT EARL KEEN

Robert Earl apparently likes San Antonio because he's played here 3 times in the last 2 months. Maybe it's cause he grew up an hour from here, I don't know. Anyway I finally got my ass off the couch and went to see him. Here are some pics from the show. He played at the baseball stadium after the Missions game (The Missions are the Double A team of the San Diego Padres).
