Rebel Football Outlook 2010

OK Rebel fans, not that you care, but I am posting it anyway. I think we have the potential to have a solid campaign if we catch a few breaks and this Masoli guy plays good ball for us. Our other options at QB aren't as salivating as this one. Hence the whole reason, Nutt and the administration went after him. I am not certain how we will fair this season without Dexter, but you gotta think there is gonna be a little electricity missing. That's OK, hopefully someone steps up and plays at a consistent level and gives a little balance to the offense. It really all boils down to O-line and we will see how that looks and develops as the season unfolds. Defensively, I think we will be OK with 6 returning starters and a handful of other guys that got a little PT last year.

We do benefit from having a rather soft schedule. I don't think it is a stretch that we start 5-0. I'm sure some knuckleheads will be like, "we should be ranked in the top 25" if we do start 5-0. Well, we don't. We don't play anybody those first five games of the year and four of them are at home. Also, you might as well consider traveling to Tulane as a home game because we will have more fans at that game than they will. However, I don't know much about Fresno State, but in past years watching them play, they seem to put out a competitive product. May lose that one. Who knows? Vandy and Kentucky are at home conference games we should win, albeit the scoreboard may be closer than the rebel community would like to see. Maybe we play terrible and they play great and we lose on of those. So the downside is we start 4-1, maybe if the universe is really against us 3-2. I think we start 5-0 and then the pain starts.

In back to back weeks, we travel to Bama and then Arkansas and then finish out the month of October at home against Auburn. Realistically we lose all three of those games. If the universe is really for us, we beat Arkansas. Or, all the chips fall perfectly and we beat Auburn at home. Not happening in my mind, we lose all 3. So at this point, we are 5-3. Some of the Rebel nation is ready to quit but hold on peeps. There is still 4 games left...2 at Home, 2 on the Road. I think we go through this stretch at 3-1. Louisiana Lafayette should be a win. I like us on the Road in Knoxville even though that is a tough place to play. I think LSU donkey punches us this year after the Beatdown two seasons ago and the "Mismanagement" game in Oxford last year. Tigers are after blood. I think we beat State in a close one and finish out the season 8-4. Go to pretty fair bowl game and hey its all good. I really think that we have the potential to achieve this as a football team. Will it happen? Who the hell knows? They gotta play the game. Masoli may stink against SEC competition. I don't think we have a losing record unless we get bit by a rash of injuries and we are forced to play a ton of inexperienced guys. If we go 7-5 or 6-6, so be it. We are Ole Miss. We aren't gonna win 9-10 games every year and if you think we are then you are delusional. Anyway, that's my take. Like it or not is up to you. I don't care. I'd love it if we were one of those top dogs in the SEC that competes for a conference title every year, but we aren't. That doesn't detract from me supporting the Rebs. That's my school baby!! Here is to looking at the glass half full Rebel nation and hopefully a solid season. Peace out...
