MSU Dawgs get nod in the Polls

In honor of the Dogs catapulting to #22 in the Polls after there Big W over the Gators in "The Swamp"

Bears Huh?

I don't know, maybe this is the beginning of the Ole Miss Chapter of the "Superfans".... We are the Bears now.

And maybe one day, down the road, we knock off a solid team and the oppositions coach has a postgame press conference like this one..

STILL THE ONE

As much bitching as I do about Les Miles and Jordan Jefferson, it's still better to be a Tiger fan than a Black Bear fan. 7-0

P.S. How about Bluto doing "The Sprinkler" at the 2:55 mark of this video? Nice

BLACK BEARS?

I guess somewhere, somehow this makes sense?

Thanks for the Memories Bobby

Well Bobby Cox managed his last game for the Braves last night as the San Fran Giants were able to come through in the clutch once again and beat the Braves. Bobby was the manager of the Braves for most of my life so I guess you could say I've grown up with him, as many others have as well. Hall of Famer no doubt and who can forget those amazing Braves teams from the 90's which carried over into the new millenium. All those great players, Glavine, Smoltz, Justice, Avery, Maddux, Lemke to name a few that come to mind. It will no doubt be tough shoes to fill in Atlanta and I certainly wouldn't want that task. Anyhow, as a tribute to Bobby, I offer a video of something that happened to him as often as winning, getting tossed. We enjoyed watching the club you put together year in and year out and this year was no different. Just didn't have enough in the tank left in the end.

Pure Genius

The Real Reason Daniel Larusso beat Johnny Lawrence..My Take

First and foremost, I really like this movie. It is a classic movie that came out in my youth. I can remember really wanting to learn karate after seeing this movie and not just wanting to learn karate but learn it from Mr. Miyagi. Well obviously that wasn't going to happen so we scratched karate. So I'm watching this the other day and it dawns on me that there was no way that Daniel was going to lose the All Valley tournament. Just no way he loses and I'll tell you why.

First off, fear played a factor. He had been pushed around by the Cobra Kai fraternity and he had the incident where his bike let him down. These guys rolled on his ass every chance they got. So in the back of his mind he went into the tournament thinking about those beatings. He fought for his life in that tournament. In addition, the Cobra Kai's, more notably John Lawrence or Johnny, were in fear of losing to Daniel san. This guys a chump, a pushover. We've been whipping up on this guy all first 9 weeks of school. We can't let this guy win. They showed that fear in the tournament because they tried to hurt him, get him out of there. Sinsai John Kreese didn't want to take chances with Daniel so he gave them the green light to sweep the leg. He even got Jimmy to cheap shot him in the semis. Cost that young Cobra a spot in the finals.

Secondly, training. The Cobras trained indoors in an air conditioned building, with a padded floor. Sure those facilities are reminiscent of the facilities in the tournament but they are no match to what daniel san went through. Daniel went through a rigid regiment of training under Miyagi's teaching. Miyagi had him waxing cars, sanding a deck, taking rogue waves in the surf, and balancing on the bow of the boat. All outdoors, in the elements, in the heat. No AC, no padded floor, nothing. You think Jerry Rice worked out indoors in his playing days? Hell no, he was out in the elements, running hills and catching bricks. That's where Champions are made, in the pain of the training. Ole Miyagi worked him to the bone and just when he was about to quit he reaffirmed that training to him by demonstrating to him that all this crappy work has a purpose.

Lastly, Daniel had nothing to lose. Daniel was a transfer student from Riccita. He came from a single parent household. There damn station wagon had to be push started. He had a stupid bike. He wasn't a part of the well-to-do society that Johnny Lawrence rubbed elbows with and the parents of his love interest, Ali, thought very little of him. So he was profiled and discriminated against as well. Not to mention, Johnny was the two-time defending All Valley Champion. Daniel was an upstart from nowhere. A real underdog. If Vegas put odds on that tournament, Daniel would have been a 1 out of 100,000 odds. Maybe more, but he was a true darkhorse.

You may or may not agree with this and make no mistake, in a street fight, Johnny would whip his ass up one block and down the other. But in a confined arena with rules and regulations all of what Daniel went through to get there made him ready to take that Championship. Also, that Crane Kick worked in the tournament but you all saw what happened when he tried to pull that shit in the Death Match against Chosen in Karate Kid II.

LES MILES MUST HAVE A HORSESHOE UP HIS ASS

Now don't get me wrong, I am happier than a pig in shit that LSU won the game, but Les Miles is an idiot or a genius, I can't figure out which one. He is either an idiot who can't figure out what the clock is there for and runs two dives up the middle down 3 on the 36 because he doesn't realize that a 53 yard field goal is not a gimme. Maybe he's a genius who fucks the clock up to confuse the other team and sets up a 53 yard field goal just so he can fake it. Either way you can't say the guy isn't interesting. My only real problem with the guy is his refusal to play Jarrett Lee more. Let's look at the drives for each QB...

Lee drives: 4 TDs & 1 Punt.
JJ's drives: 3 punts, 2 FGs, Interception, Fumble

Do I even need to continue? If Jarrett Lee plays the whole game, it's not even close. LSU completely dominated this game but JJ's drives kept stalling and our play calling got conservative as soon as we got a lead and stayed that way until we got behind. If LSU had a decent Offensive Coordinator who realizes run, run, pass... run, run pass is not a game plan and would start and play Lee they would have an average margin of victory of 21 points. Here's to hoping our luck continues.

In case you missed it....

This guy is pretty incredible. A no-no in the postseason is about as rare as they come as far as personal/team accomplishments. I say team because the defense has gotta play behind this guy, who is straight up dealing. There has been lots of talk on the radio today about this, as it should be, and the points that keep coming up are that the Cincinatti Reds are frauds and that is it coincidental that this guy, who tossed a perfect game earlier this year, tossed a no-no in the postseason with the same umpire behind the plate as his perfecto. If you listen to "The Herd" on ESPN radio you know what this is all about because Colin has been calling the Reds a fraud for a good long while. As for the same umpire for the perfecto and the no-no, there is some discussion about maybe this umpire, whom I forget his name, shows a little favortism towards Halladay because he works fast. Halladay is not out there walking around the mound in between pitches, soaking up the sights. He is up on the rubber and ready to work. It is strange and certainly not far fetched as far as I am concerned. Certainly something else to think about.

As for the rest of postseason baseball, I am a little surprised that the Tampa Rays are down 2-0 to the Texas Rangers. I felt that they would certainly have better pitching in the series, but then again it is the American League and there are more bats to deal with in the order. Not that it should be a problem, it just kinda looks like it has the makings of a choke job by the Rays. Series isn't over yet though so expect to see them rally.

The Yankees are taking care of business as usual. They just seem to own the Twins in the Postseason so we will shall see if the Twins have any mustard left to get back into the series.

The National league, so far has been headlined by strong pitching. Halladay with the no-no and Lincecum throws a complete game, 14 K performance for a 1-0 W over the Braves. I like the Phillies in a sweep over the Reds and I am really hoping that the Braves get back in the series tomorrow. It would be nice to send Bobby Cox out a winner or at least advance to the NLCS to face the Phillies.

In addition, one of the best recievers out there today is going back to where it all began. Randy Moss headed back home to Minnesota in a trade from the Pats. The Pats got some draft picks and Randy gets to catch rockets off the ageless wonder, Brett Favre. It seems that Randy had become a distraction in the locker room over in New England and that just doesn't fly with Belichek. I think this fresh start for Randy is going to be a great thing. He'll definately have amply chances to get the ball and make plays because lord knows the Vikings need wideouts. Is there any coincidence that Belichek makes the trade to Minnesota right about the time they are set to suite up against the NY Jets? The Pats hate the Jets so I find that pretty interesting in a chess match kinda way. Like Bill is saying, well, we gotta dump him so lets let the Jets deal with him again. Sure they got us earlier this year, but the hell with them now. Either way you slice it, Randy's Rocket is ready to race. Of course, he doesn't have Cris Carter out there.

Powers Picks of the Week

Hey, I lost as well so don't give me any shit about the past week or so. A true champion fights through the adversity. Thats what champions do. I'm ticked off this weekend so I am putting rent and everything up this week. You should do the same. Don't be scared. If you are scared, get a dog. This week is the stomp on the bookies throat locks of the week.....

NC State -9 over Boston College

Florida International -9 over Western Kentucky

Houston Texans -3 over NY Giants

Washington Redskins +3 over Green Bay Packers

Its time to nut up and put it out there, all of it. That's what Kenny does.

IT'S JORTS WEEK!

With all this Brick Tamland (I mean Les Miles) talk I almost forgot one of my favorite weeks of the year. No not shark week, Jorts week. With LSU playing Florida this weekend it's time to celebrate Florida Gator fans favorite attire, the Jorts. Enjoy.

LES MILES IS BRICK TAMLAND

Today in Mandel's Mailbag, Stewart Mandel of Sports Illustrated referred to Les Miles as Brick Tamland (Steve Carell's character in Anchorman). It's hard to argue that statement. Watch the video below and think of Miles saying these things and not Carell. It does not seem far fetched at all. Also, Miles today named Jordan Jefferson the starter against Florida this Saturday. No, I'm not joking. I used to think Miles was just stupid but I now see that he is mentally retarded and should really be applauded for making it this far in life.

Ole Miss vs Kentucky preview

I apologize for my lack of doing this until now. Things have been hectic and my computer is a dinosaur so I don't have as much time available. I do today and am glad to share this with all of you. If you are going to game, wear RED!! Seriously!! The school wants to create and environment and this along with cheering is just your small part to play. Now, game info:

This game will be the 41st meeting between Ole Miss and Kentucky. The Rebels hold a 26-13-1 lead in the all-time series and have won six of the last eight games played. Ole Miss also holds a 7-2 advantage in games played in Oxfor.

• Kentucky is the Rebels' third-least played SEC opponent only having played Ole Miss more times than Auburn (34) and South Carolina (15).

• The Rebels are 16-15 against SEC East foes dating back to 2000.

• Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt is just 2-3 all-time versus the Wildcats. However, he did defeat Kentucky 70-63 in an NCAA record-tying seven overtimes in 2003.

• The Rebels are seeking to improve their record to 3-2 on the season. Ole Miss was 3-2 after five games last season before winning five of its next six games.

• Ole Miss has scored 145 points in the first four games of the season, which is the most points the Rebels have scored in their first four games since scoring 162 points in 2003. The Rebels scored 182 points after five games that season

The Rebellion Continued...

Former NFL and standout Ole Miss lineman, Todd Wade, has joined Former Ole Miss Quarterback in his plea for the fans to take back Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. I couldn't agree more with what these guys are asking. Seriously, you are at a football game, you are supposed to cheer and cheer loud. I think its insane that this is actually an issue but it is and these guys at least have the stones to step up and challenge the fan base to actually show there support and quit being so bandwagon. I know, from time to time, I get pissy with the Rebs, when we just continue to shoot ourselves in the foot during the game, but that does not waiver from loyalty or my ability to cheer for the team. I don't get to go to many games, maybe one a year. But when I do go, I am not there making a scarf or looking at a catalog. I'm 10 in the pack, 1 in the bottle and rabid. If you don't agree, ask those poor bastards sitting around me. Popcorn flying in the air, you name it. I think everyone who is a fan and routes for there respective team will tell you that they love watching there team in there respective stadiums and that is the way it should be, as far as I am concerned. I know Mac loves watches the Tigers in Baton Rouge. I've seen the joy in his eyes. Anyway, here is the letter that was posted on www.theolemissblog.com/ . Enjoy!

A LETTER FROM TODD WADE:

There is a deep rooted culture that exists on gamedays in the fall in Oxford. Its a deep rooted culture that goes back longer than I've lived. Ole Miss fans are familiar with the slogan "We May Not Win Every Game But We Ain't Ever Lost a Party?" A friend and neighbor of mine came up with that fun and catchy slogan, but unfortunately too many of us embrace this mantra on Football Saturdays in Oxford. The Grove has created a unique atmosphere for all who experience it. It is something Ole Miss fans take a lot of pride in. However, The Grove has been an achilles heel to a place called Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for a long time. A former teammate of mine, Romaro Miller, just recently voiced his concerns about the lackluster gameday environment in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. I completely agree. Words can not express how influential fans, students and alumni can be to a team during a sporting event. The Grove has created a unique atmosphere for all who experience it. It is something Ole Miss fans take a lot of pride in. But like Romaro, I think the event at The Grove has become the primary reason for gameday, instead of a place called Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. After all, Isn't this why we show up to show our undying support?

I've played football all of my life until two years ago. I decided to hang it up and move back to Oxford. Something had to replace the passion that I lost in the sport I loved to play so much. So like all of you, I became a fan. A serious one. Since that time, I have traveled to all of the away games and have been in Oxford for every single home game to support my beloved Rebels. Becoming a diehard Rebel fan was good timing to say the least. In my first two years since leaving football, I have seen my alma mater make it to back to back Cotton Bowls and win both of them! Its a remarkable feat considering that in the 26 games we played in the last two years we have won 18 of those with little to zero home field advantage. Steve Spurrier brought his Gamecocks to Oxford in 2008 and left with a victory. After the game Spurrier was asked if there were communication problems? Spurrier implied that our crowd noise was not an issue and did nothing to affect his offense and its audibles. Their game plan was completely intact for the entire 60 minutes. Romaro mentioned that Coach Cut said "Carry the Fight to the Opponent and Keep it there for 60 minutes." That is correct. Our young team must do this now, and so should we as Ole Miss fans.

It is our duty.

We are simply not entitled to bowl games. I can promise you the guys on our team wish they could take a lot of things back and be 4-0 coming into this week...but they're not. They're 2-2. So what do you do about it as a fan besides complain? Do we continue to look like we don't care? We need to ask ourselves "What can I do to help the situation and improve morale inside the Stadium?" Something has to happen in your mind as you walk from the Grove to Vaught-Hemingway. It is two seperate mindset entities. When you leave the Great American Social Scene (which I enjoy) something must happen to turn the switch into becoming a FAN. A loud one. Win or lose. Students, I encourage all of you to wear our school colors for the game. Whatever is asked, please do it. We need uniformity. Guys, you have no excuse. So how to support our team in the stadium? Stand up when the defense hits the field.. Do not tell someone standing in front of you to sit down. Its a football game. Stand up with them, we are all in this together. When our defense hits the field it is Imperative that you make "Continuous Noise" for each Defensive down including 4th down when they punt! Don't say one thing while our offense is out there! Eat a hot dog! It doesn't matter. Please remain quiet. As a former offensive lineman who jumped offsides more than once in my career, I can promise you that crowd noise is detrimental to an opposing offense. As Ole Miss fans we seem to have never gotten the memo to cheer on every single defensive down, not just 3rd. As fans, if we can get an opposing offensive player to jump on 1st down then it becomes 1st and 15. The opposing offensive coordinator has to go back to his playbook to find a certain play that fits what has now become very long yardage. We have now just taken them out of their gameplan! Please do yourself a favor and YouTube Jeremiah Masoli's old stadium, Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon. There stadium is SMALLER than ours! At 54,000, it is widely regarded as one of the loudest places to play in America. What about Lane Stadium at Virginia Tech? It was rated the number one home field advantage in all of college football in 2005 by Rivals.com. It is also ranked #2 on ESPN.com's "Top 10 Scariest Places To Play." Their stadium seats 66,000, about 5,000 more than ours. While our Rebels work on the things they need to work on to improve their game, we must do the same as fans. We need to improve our intensity! Sacrifice just over 3 hours of your time on Gameday. Lets change this lifeless culture in Vaught-Hemingway at Ole Miss. As alumni and students we need to rally behind our teams win or lose. For one, you will help our team by making it so deafly loud that the opposing offense will have a difficult time communicating. Secondly, you will have much more fun! Personally, I am ready to go to new heights at Ole Miss. I want to do my part so that I can say I did everything I could have done to make our beloved Vaught-Hemingway Stadium one of the most intense and difficult places to play in the country.

Lastly, I've talked with members of the team, alumni, students, and former players as well as people in the administration who feel strongly about our cause, The Rebellion. I can assure you that the University will do everything in their power to improve the Vaught-Hemingway Gameday Experience. We finally have people excited about getting on board for a good thing. A New Tradition. This staff is recruiting lights out right now (as high as 9th in the country) and we need to show them that we love Ole Miss. I don't feel that this metamorphosis can happen overnight. Students will have to hold other students accountable and it will need a carry over effect. I do feel this is a great opportunity, that if done correctly right now, will make us truly proud for years to come. I'd love for our record to be perfect, just like the rest of you, and the timing could be better, but the time is now, Not next year. Now!

Let's get Home Field Advantage.

Hotty Toddy!

Todd M. Wade

Powers Picks of the Week

Ok, so last week down the drain. KMA. Nobody's perfect. I'm about as close to perfect as you can get but even I slip up. Anyway, get back on the winning track this weekend with slate. I call them the Fierce Four and they go like this.....

UCLA -27 over Washington State

Marshall +9.5 over Southern Miss

Tennessee Titans -6.5 over Denver Broncos

Philly Eagles -5.5 over Washington Redskins

NO picture this week as I am already in the media enough. Besides, I got priors. Peace
