Ole Miss vs. Auburn


Well the Rebels got a much needed victory Saturday in front of a Vaught-Hemingway crowd of 57,000+. It was not the most glamorous game on Saturday, but to the faithful it meant a great deal. With Rebels at 5-4 (3-3) we inch a little bit closer to being bowl eligible and that is always a positive. 'A win is a win'... no matter how you get it. We out did them on the ground and in the turnover column...vital areas to win in SEC football. To Ole Miss fans this game would best be described as a defensive struggle, for those not loyal to the cause it was a sh!t off. Anywho, some Post game notes:

SERIES INFORMATION
• This meeting was the 33rd all-time between the Rebels and Tigers dating back to 1928 ... Despite the loss, Auburn holds a 24-9 advantage in the series.
• The Rebels end a four-game skid in the series.
• Ole Miss earned its first win over the Tigers at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium since 1992, ending a streak of seven straight losses ... Auburn owns an 8-2 advantage over the Rebels in games played in Oxford.
• Ole Miss limited Auburn to its fewest points in the series since a 13-7 Rebel victory in the 1965 Liberty Bowl.

GENERAL NOTES
• With a 5-4 record, Ole Miss is off to its best start and has recorded its most wins since 2003.
• The Rebels faced their third straight SEC Western Division foe.

OFFENSIVE NOTES
• Ole Miss’ 233 yards rushing is the most by the Rebels since running for 240 against Memphis in the 2006 season opener.
• Ole Miss had no turnovers for the second time this season, having also accomplished the feat against Memphis ... The Rebels improved to 5-0 when turning the ball over two times or fewer.
• The Rebels scored first for the eighth time in nine games this season.
• Junior RB Cordera Eason posted his first career 100-yard rushing game, running for 104 on 14 attempts.
• Junior Dexter McCluster turned in career highs in rushing yards with 84 and carries with 14 ... He also hauled in four passes for 47 yards.
• Sophomore QB Jevan Snead threw multiple TD passes for the fifth time this year and second straight week ... Snead completed 15-of-30 for a season-low 140 yards with two TDs and no interceptions.
• Junior WR Shay Hodge extended his team lead in TD catches with his seventh of the year on a two-yard pass from Snead ... Hodge collected six receptions for 62 yards.
• Snead and Hodge have connected for a TD in seven of the nine games this season.
• Sophomore RB Derrick Davis notched his first career reception and touchdown with his three-yard scoring catch in the fourth quarter.

DEFENSIVE NOTES
• Ole Miss held the opposition under 82 rushing yards for the fourth time this season, limiting the Tigers to 75 yards on the ground.
• The Rebel defense surrendered its fewest points since the 24-0 blanking of Louisiana Tech last season.
• Ole Miss’ three interceptions marked the most since picking off Memphis four times in the 2007 season opener ... This marks the second game this season with multiple interceptions, having picked off two passes against Memphis.
• Junior cornerbacks Cassius Vaughn and Marshay Green notched their first career interceptions ... Junior S Kendrick Lewis collected his team-high third interception of the year.
• In addition to his first career interception, junior CB Cassius Vaughn led the team and posted a career-high nine total tackles.
• Sophomore DE Kentrell Lockett was credited with career highs of seven total tackles and 2.5 TFLs.
• Senior DT Peria Jerry posted six total tackles and 1.5 TFLs ... Jerry has 6.0 TFLs in his last three games.

SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES
• With his 31 yards today, senior Mike Wallace established an Ole Miss single-season record with 674 kickoff return yards on the season ... The previous record was Deuce’s McAllister’s 1999 total of 652 ... Wallace became the Rebel all-time career leader at Arkansas and now boasts 1,205 career KR yards.
• Junior K Joshua Shene had his streak of consecutive field goals end at nine after his 45-yard attempt in the third quarter sailed wide right ... Shene connected on a 34-yard FG in the second quarter and nailed both PATs.
• Senior P Rob Park notched his fifth punt of 50-plus yards with his 57-yarder ... Park finished with eight punts for a 39.5-yard average.
